Why doesn’t my neighborhood have a levee?

October 31, 2017

Levees in FBC are locally owned and maintained. Each LID district is funded through property taxes collected by those residents living in the levee-protected area.

Communities protected by levees have opted to participate in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), which requires a flood protection levee. The NFIP offers federally backed flood insurance to communities who utilize levees as part of their floodplain management.
