Hurricane Harvey Update #3

August 25, 2017

Fort Bend County, Texas – Fort Bend County braces for winds and rainfall from Hurricane Harvey which is now a category 2 hurricane. The anticipated impact to our community is widespread winds and heavy rainfall over the next several days due to this slow moving storm.  Tropical-storm force winds could continue through Tuesday. It is anticipated that some areas could see up to 35 inches of rain through Tuesday south of I-10, with most areas seeing between 15-25 inches.  Fort Bend County is under a Flash Flood Watch and a Tropical Storm Warning.  Landfall is anticipated to be in the Corpus Christi and Rockport areas of the Texas coast. Tornadoes are possible on the bands of this hurricane and by nightfall when Harvey reaches shore it is anticipated that the increases in wind speeds will make Harvey a category 3 hurricane.

Due to the impact of localized flooding over the next several days the following closures are in place:

  • Fort Bend County Libraries will be closed on Saturday and Sunday
  • Fort Bend County Clerk offices will  close at noon on Friday and will be closed through  Monday
  • The Fort Bend County District and County Courts will also be closed on Monday
  • Fort Bend Animal Services Department will be closed to the public on Saturday

At this time all other County departments will remain open.

The Fort Bend County Emergency Operations Center remains open 24/7 until the conclusion of the incident.

School closures as of 8/25/2017:

  • Katy ISD – closed Friday will reevaluate for Monday
  • Stafford – closed Friday will reevaluate for Monday
  • Needville – closed Friday through Monday
  • Brazos ISD – closed Friday will reevaluate for Monday
  • Fort Bend ISD – closed Friday through Monday
  • Lamar Consolidated ISD – closed Friday through Monday
  • University of Houston all Campuses – closed beginning at 1:00 p.m. Friday  through Sunday
  • Houston Community College – closed Friday through Monday
  • Wharton Junior College – closed Friday through Sunday

Fort Bend County officials are monitoring Hurricane Harvey and will make a determination on sheltering as conditions develop.

Residents with questions about the Barker Reservoir or the Willowfork Portion of the Buffalo Bayou should contact the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers by calling 281-752-2600.

At this time there are no road closures and the county has not implemented the emergency Traffic Control Plan so all roads remain open and are normal routes. If and when roads become impassable, the Fort Bend County Road Closures page will be kept up-to-date.

Because of the potential for catastrophic flooding, residents in Fort Bend County should plan to stay off the roads and shelter in place during the weekend.

El impacto esperado en nuestra comunidad es generalizados vientos y lluvias que amenazan la vida en los próximos días debido a esta tormenta de movimiento lento.  Los vientos huracanados de la tormenta tropical podrían continuar a través del martes.   • El albergue de animals del condado (Fort Bend County Animal Services) estará cerrado para el pĂşblico el sabado

En este momento todos los departamentos de Condado permanecerá abiertos.

El Centro de Operaciones de Emergencia del Condado de Fort Bend estará abierto 24/7 hasta la conclusión del incidente.

Ofíciales del Condado de Fort Bend seguirán al huracán Harvey y harán una determinación sobre refugio como condiciones se desarrollan.

En este momento no hay cierres de carretera y el Condado no ha implementado el Plan de Control de tráfico de emergencia por lo que permanecen abiertos todos los caminos y rutas normales. Cuando los caminos se hacen intransitables, la página de Fort Bend County Road Closures se mantendrá actualizada.
