Fort Bend County, Texas – On April 17, Boy Scouts from Fulshear Boy Scout Troop 941 (and some of their parents) visited the Fort Bend County Office of Emergency Management.
These scouts were working on an Emergency Preparedness merit badge. One of the requirements for the badge is to discuss how to Prepare, Respond, Recover, Prevent, and Mitigate losses in emergency situations. They must also make a chart that demonstrates their understanding of each of those aspects and are required to meet with and teach their families how to build a kit, make a plan, and be informed during emergencies.
Office of Emergency Management staff discussed what types of volunteer opportunities there are for Scouts after an emergency occurs. Alan Spears, the Deputy Emergency Management Coordinator for Fort Bend County, led the scouts and their families through a tour of the Fort Bend County Emergency Operations Center by where they saw how the County coordinates and communicates during emergencies.
