Emergency Management Courses
- ICS 300 and 400
- In-person classes (register through PreparingTexas.org) that expand on previous Incident Command System and National Incident Management System classes. You must take IS/ICS-100, 200, 700, and 800 before you can enroll in these.
- ICS-300 Intermediate ICS for Expanding Incidents
- ICS-300 provides training and resources for personnel who require advanced knowledge and application of the ICS. This course expands upon information covered in the ICS-100 and ICS-200 courses.
- ICS-400 Advanced ICS
- This course provides training and resources for personnel who require advanced application of ICS. This course expands upon information covered in ICS-100 through ICS-300.
- Additional Incident Management System and EOC courses
- FEMA’s list of additional emergency management courses that include topics like the incident command system and emergency operation centers
- Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service (TEEX) offers a variety of free and paid classes (in-person and online) that are emergency management and threat-specific
FEMA Independent Study (IS) Courses
Independent study courses are free, online FEMA courses taken by the public and by people with emergency management responsibilities. You need a FEMA student ID to take these courses.

- SKYWARN
- The SKYWARN Storm Spotter Program is a training program offered by the National Weather Service (NWS). As a trained SKYWARN Storm Spotter, you can help the community by providing critical information on local severe weather conditions to our NWS forecasters. The information provided by Storm Spotters helps the NWS issue accurate and timely reports and warnings for emergency weather conditions like tornados, thunderstorms, and flash floods. The NWS offers basic and advanced SKYWARN training classes.
