Flight Practice

This group meets regularly to practice drone flights in a safe environment with other professional pilots in a judgement free zone. We meet at the Fort Bend County Fairgrounds (4310 Hwy. 36 South, Rosenberg, TX 77471) on Thursday mornings from 9:00-11:00 A.M. unless noted otherwise. The current schedule is as follows:

UPDATE: The Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office has purchased a DJI M210 and several DJI Mavics and trained several new pilots. They were not able to meet on Thursday mornings due to scheduling conflicts, so we will be moving to every Wednesday morning instead for the rest of the year. In January 2019 we may reevaluate. Join us on Wednesdays, welcome our new pilots into the fold, and see the Sheriff’s new command vehicle!

Training

Fort Bend County has partnered with the Center for Robot-Assisted Search and Rescue (CRASAR) since 2015 for robotic support of disaster response efforts. The CRASAR has been around since the 9/11 terrorist attacks and through their partner and member organizations have an overwhelming amount of ecxperience operating robotic platforms in support of public safety agencies. Fort Bend County periodically hosts CRASAR sUAS Flight Academy; this 5-day course teaches you everything a pilot needs to know to be certified under the Federal Aviation Administration’s Part 107, and best practices for sUAS in disaster response. PArticipants leave the class with a PArt 107 pilot’s license and valuable knowledge of sUAS in emergency management. Information about the flight academy, including any upcoming classes can be found here: sUAS Part 107 Flight Academy

Fort Bend County will also be hosting a CRASAR-provided UAS Response Technician I & II courses in January 2019, for more information about these courses contact lach.mullen@FortBendCountyTX.gov. Gee, look at all this Fort Bend County footage in the promo video for these classes, these folks know disaster response and know the Houston area and Fort Bend County:
